Who would have a thought that a single photo can change your life? You may have heard of the “Badjao Girl” whose phot was taken by Topher Quinto Burgos when he attended the Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon in May 2016. The then 13-year old Badjao Girl was wearing worn out clothes, carrying a baby asking for alms from the people around.

This photo earned special attention among the netizens because of Rita Gaviola’s raw beauty. Unlike those models who have different teams to groom them, Rita’s beauty is striking at the same time mesmerizing. This was noticed not only the local netizens but other people from different parts of the globe.

 

Beauty queens like Miss World Philippines 2015 Hillarie Danielle Parungao, Miss International Philippines 2014 Bianca Guidotti, and Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong reached out to Rita looking for ways on how they can help her family.

A quick background about Rita was her family decided to transfer from Zamboanga to Lucena together with her five siblings when she was still a kid. Her father worked as a garbage collector while her mother stays at home to look after them. Yet, the hard truth is that her father does not earn enough to feed them that is why she asked for alms on the street to help her family put food on their plates.

After this discovery, she got an opportunity to join a reality show in ABS-CBN, where she was able to show her true self, then after that, she had some cameo roles on some series of the GMA Network. Rita also tried some modelling and product endorsements. And she expressed how thankful she is to Mr. Topher who took that one picture that led her to where she is right now.

If you will see Rita at present, she no longer has traces of poverty, but her beauty glowed more and her teenage years has been a great transition for her. And right now, she is trying to focus more on her studies. She is putting value on her education, especially because she got it from a scholarship, and she does not want to disappoint the good person who have given this opportunity to her.
