Isang Lalaki Ang Gumawa ng Artificial Na Isla Gawa Sa Plastic Bottles at Iba Pang Basura
The problem with plastic has been a growing tumor on the surface of the earth, and this seemingly unsolvable issue urged environmentalist to reduce plastic waste as well as reuse plastic containers. Most products that are packaged in plastics often end up in the ocean and destruct the marine ecosystem and biodiversity because of pollution. While many alternatives are presented to make use of plastics through recycling, this man on our featured story for today goes on a mile by making use of plastic bottles to build his own artificial island!
Richart Sowa, a 61-year-old British environmentalist and architect, came up with an amazing use for plastic bottles instead of ending into waste and the oceans. Richart constructed his own floating artificial island using about 150,000 plastic bottles and lives his life there with a house and garden since 2008.
He originally built his first island back in 2005 but due to weather conditions, it got destroyed which he later on rebuilt and called the Spiral Island. He then construct two more mini-islands with these plastic bottles. He also built his third island on lagoon and this 25-square-meter construction can withstand strong winds and even hurricanes.
The island is also built with biodegradable and eco-friendly materials using bamboo, wood pellets, and sand. They then used air-filled plastic bags and containers to make their artificial island float and support structures with its buoyancy.
After years of hard work and perfecting his plan, Richart finally able to construct this dream of his and called it Joyxee Island, to which he lived with his wife, Jodi Bowlin.
The two lived in the house made of shells on that artificial island that he built. Richart also aims to be self-sufficient. He is a vegetarian and grows his own vegetables on his island filled with sand and soil. He also collects rain water that passes down conch shells, filters it and uses it for his daily needs. He carries emergency kits with him just in case he would need it in the future.
He and his partner Jodi aims to beautify Joyxee Island and together, works hard to promote environmentalism and awareness of plastic waste and its possible uses in other ways.
